モントレー国際大学学長メッセージ

Dear President Honda,

It is with a profound sense of sadness and shock that I learned from Professor Tsuneo Akaha about the horrific death of one of your students, Ms. Miyako Hiraoka. Please accept my deepest sympathies and share them with your colleagues and students at the University of Shimane.

We have cherished our cooperative relationship with your university and enjoyed having your students study here during the summer over the years and to think that Ms. Hiraoka could have been one of the students coming to us this summer, I cannot but feel a sense of sadness. I have been comforted to learn, however, that your staff and students are building a flower garden in Ms. Hiraoka’s memory and that you will be planting a tree symbolizing her dream continuing to grow and shared with her classmates and other students that follow. I am also impressed to learn that your university has decided to provide additional support to every student participating in language and intercultural experience programs overseas. I appreciate the wisdom and moral commitment reflected in this decision.

Again, please accept my deepest sympathies and know that Ms. Hiraoka is in our thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely yours,

Sunder Ramaswamy
President
